For this assignment you will be painting a color wheel. This will help you understand the basics of blending colors as well simply learning the proper techniques for creating colors.
The basic color wheel has 12 colors.
Objects absorb the colors you don't see. Your eyes only process the color that's reflected back to you.
Primary Colors - can't be mixed from from any other colors. All other colors come from these 3.
Secondary Colors - these come from mixing the primary colors.
Tertiary Colors - mixed by adding a primary to a secondary.
Notice you don't see black and white on here? That's because they aren't colors.
Black is the absence of all colors, and white is all colors together.
People do not see colors the same way. The number and type of cone cells can vary from person to person. You may not see the exact same colors as someone else. These differences can also lead to what's commonly called color-blindness. This doesn't mean a person with color blindness can't see color, but only that they may see colors differently. You can check to see how your color vision may be different at site like this.
There are 2 styles you can choose from for your color wheel. Grab a full sheet of watercolor paper and and use a pencil to draw your wheel. Make sure to use stencils or some other object to draw a nice and neat color wheel. After drawing the wheel label each color using the example at the top of this webpage, or one of the color wheels hanging around the room. Neatness counts!
STYLE 1
Look around the room for objects you can use to draw 2 concentric circles.
Then use a ruler to draw your straight lines like the images. You will need 12 spaces for your color.
STYLE 2
You only need one round object for this to draw a large circle first.
Then use the circle stencils to create a ring of 12 circles.
After drawing your color wheel get your paints! You only need the 3 primary colors, red, yellow, blue.
Use a pallete tray not the small dishes. Arrange your colors aroudn the outside of the tray.
Grab a small flat and detail brush.
Don't forgot your own water and a rag!
To make your life easier follow these steps!
To mix orange you add 50% red and 50% yellow.
To mix yellow orange you mix 50% yellow, and 50% orange.
Continue this process for all your colors!
