By the end of this assignment you should know how to install an operating system/Windows on a computer.
While you can still buy Windows on a disc, most people either use a USB or a digital download of Windows. For this assignment you will be installing Windows from a USB.
Why a USB? Most computers today don't actually have a disc drive anymore, especially laptops, so a USB can be used more universally. Also, if you build your own computer it will not come with an operating system, and you will need to purchase and install Windows.
When you buy Windows you can either order a USB, or simply download the installer and digital license to install it. In fact, you don't even need to buy Windows first. You can download it and install it for free, but with limited functionality.
For this assignment you will be creating a USB installer, and installing Windows on your computer. The class will also be writing the correct directions on the board as we follow this process.
Step 1 - Click here for instructions on how to create a USB installer.
Step 2 - You will need to get your computer to load the USB drive first instead of your hard drive. To do this you will need to enter the system BIOS. Here are 2 options with instructions for that process.
